The "Sunday in the Soup" paddle is intended to be semi-regular. Times and duration will vary though a minimum of 3 hours duration.
The aim is to provide the opportunity to develop or maintain skills and refine paddling techniques for handling open sea conditions while building on paddling fitness and having fun!
The launch location will be generally around the Sutherland Shire with a possible special trips along the spectacular Illawarra coast.
You should be able to paddle about 20km in open sea conditions, paddle for an hour at a sustained 7km per hour over an hours duration and be confident you can get back into your sea kayak from deep water in the event of an assisted rescue.
All participants should be ready to demonstrate an immersion, rescue-based skill regardless of formal club grading. In regards to equipment, as close to grade 3 as you can get it.
Come prepared to be self-sufficient and contribute to group safety (for example, VHF Radio if you have one). What you need for the day will depend on the expected forecast. Pack your daily gear with appropriate dry storage, accessible water and snacks. As the intention is to be wet, a windproof layer is recommended.
Morning launch time may often be early in the morning to reduce car parking issues. The default is 8 am. Arrive earlier to allow time to get your gear together and prepare for the final water plan. An afternoon sea breeze may provide some rough water handing opportunities.
To be placed on the invitation list, "Register" via this event.
