Islands of the Hawkesbury River - NSWSKC Island Challenge

When: 1 / 2 April 2017

Grades 2 and 3. Spaces limited.

This is a great opportunity for those that have not had a chance to participate on any of the Island Challenge trips – come along and tick off a whole bunch in one foul swoop.

We will be launching from Parsley Bay (Brooklyn) on both days and staying Saturday night at a club member’s house. Some will be able to sleep inside, others will be able to pitch tents in the yard.

We plan to head upstream on the Saturday and pick off quite a number of islands including Spectacle, Snake, Peat, Milsons, Bar Islands, maybe also Friendly island if the tide is working well.

On Sunday we will circumnavigate Dangar island before heading out into Broken Bay to circle Lion Island.

Kayaks and kit to Grade 3, please.  You’ll need to be self-sufficient in terms of food, clothing, safety kit, etc. Overnight camping gear and Saturday night dinner can be left in the car

Your trip leader will be Caoimhin Ardren. If we have high demand, there is another leader offering to assist – so if the trip is showing as Full – send me an email to put you on the wait list [cardren at gmail.com]

Last Minute Sunday Paddle

New Members Paddle - Port Hacking to Audley Sun 15 Jan 2017

When:   Sunday 15 Jan 2017
Where:  Port Hacking to Audley
Grades: 0 to 1

You'll get to sleep in a little coz we need to wait for the carpark to open.  From Kareena Park, Caringbah South we'll mosey along through Port Hacking to Audley. A lunch stop nearby and then back to our start point.  If anyone is interested I'd like to do some rescue practice (and can do some logbook sign-offs as required.)  Should be at least one or two grade 2 sign-offs for everyone who comes along.

After the paddle we'll have time for a coffee and a chat about how the club works / how grading works / how you register for paddles.

Anyone who is not signed off at grade 1 - no worries, we'll do it on the day.  it's a wet exit (capsize and exit the boat) and 50m swim.

Note there’s no need to attend a welcome to the club paddle.  But if you’ve joined and haven’t worked out how to get started or how things work, this paddle is for you.

Out to Sea from The Shire

Sunday January 8th, 2017

Time:  Meet at 6:30 am to be ready to launch by 7 am

Distance:  25kms plus of open coast paddling plus opportunity for skills practice

Paddler grade:  2 plus. If you need something signed off let me know.

Specific start location to be advised to trip registrants.

Expect to finish by noon with an opportunity to practice rolling at the end or part way through.

The final plan will depend on forecast conditions.  We may head northwards out to Tabbagai Gap, stop at Boat Harbour for an off water break or go southwards to Little Marley then return.  Either trip is great and includes views of sandstone cliffs along either Kamay Botany Bay National Park or Royal National Park.  There should be one off water stop.  There are no shops so bring a good morning tea, maybe a stove for a cuppa.  To beat the traffic and ease the parking woes this trip will start early.  Bring helmets in case we decide to land in surf and equipment to as close to grade 3 as you can make it.

Trip leader is Sea Instructor Megan Pryke.  You can contact Megan using the club messaging system when logged in if you have any queries or if the event is showing as FULL and you wish to be placed on a waitlist in case someone pulls out.

Please note that you should renew your membership prior to registering for this trip.
