Broken Bay Explorer - Grade 2 and 3 Saturday 27/Aug/16

A tour of Broken Bay starting and finishing at Ettalong.  Distances about 20km.  Quite a bit of ocean exposure on two crossings of Broken Bay.  Hopefully we’ll get to tour Box Head, Lion Island and Barrenjoey.  Kayaks to at least Grade 2 standard, grade 3 preferred.  You’ll need all your food and water for the day – we’ll be stopping on an isolated beach.  Grade 2 paddlers please drop me an email with a few details of your paddling background especially any ocean paddling.  The trip leader will be Tony Murphy (tmurphy[at]cochlear.com). if the trip is full, let me know your interest and I will see if I can organise something.

New and Old Members Paddle – Cowan Creek Sun 14 Aug

The tide is favourable for a trip down Cowan Creek with the ebb tide, then back with the flood.  This is a paddle for all club members – but particularly for anyone who’s joined the club but not managed to get started.

We’ll start and finish at the boat ramp at Appletree Bay near Bobbin Head.
Distance a little over 20km … but tide assisted.

Anyone who’s not yet signed off at grade 1 – no problem, we can work that out on the day.  But please get in touch with me by email :  tmurphy[at]cochlear.com

Sea Paddle Minnamurra / Kiama area Sunday 26th June

Distance:  20 to 30km coastal paddling

Start:  be ready to be on the water 9am

The N.S.W. (aka Newcastle - Sydney - Wollongong) Challenge: Austinmer to Wollongong - Finale!

Saturday 18th of June 2016
Distance:  18km one way.
Start time:  8:30am meeting.  Expect to finish for a celebratory lunch
Paddler grade:  2 plus
Trip leaders: Megan Pryke

Join up for a bit of a celebration!  To date the majority of challenge trips have not been postponed, so fingers crossed this the trend will continue.  Winter is a great time to paddle along the NSW coast.  Along this particular section of coast whales are occasionally seen in winter.

Bring along equipment to as close to grade 3 standards as you can.  There could be an opportunity for surf practice along the way so pack in a helmet.  As the trip involves a car shuffle carry a dry bag for the clothes you intend to put on at the end of the trip.  It is also a great idea to carry in your kayak straps and keep in your car rinsing water.

More information about this challenge is here:

You can message the Megan Pryke using the club "User Contact" list which is available to logged in members if you have any questions or if the trip is showing as FULL on the system in case someone pulls out or an extra leader can help.

The Silly Season -Thursday 14/Jan

Thursday 14/Jan   Grade 1 to 3

The silly season starts on January 4th this year.  It’s the time of year when you have to go to work, but the roads are empty so you can get out and do stuff beforehand.

OK, so the plan is – meet at Balmoral at 5:45, and start paddling at 6:00 (we won't wait for stragglers).  Head out for a 10k loop (we’ll need to maintain 7kph).  Back at Balmoral at 7:30.  There’s hot showers if you don’t have a shower available at work.  There’s coffee if you do have the option of showering at work.

Another week and the silly season will be over till next year …
