New members paddle - Pittwater Paradise - 27 August (9am)
NSW Islands Challenge - Murramarang Islands – 20-21 May 2017
Grade: Grade 2 or 3 only.
Trip Type: This is an overnight trip that will require you to camp out of your kayak.
When: Be ready to hit the water at 08:30 Sat Morning.
Where: Just north of Batemans Bay. The Murramarang Islands include Brush, Belowla, Dawsons, Grasshopper & Wasp islands. All islands are less than 1 km from shore between Bawley Point and South Durras.
The Plan: The Club has instigated a challenge to circumnavigate 10 NSW Islands in one year. If this trip is successful we will circumnavigate 5 Islands over the two days.
The actual trip plan will depend on the forecast but be prepared for surf lands and launches and camping away from facilities. Options include:
- Launching from South Durras, paddling north, overnight camp near Kiolea, returning to South Durras on the Sunday.
- Launching from Bawley Point, paddling south, overnight camp near Wasp Head, returning to Bawley Point on the Sunday.
- Car shuttle, through paddle, stopping somewhere half way to camp.
If the forecast does not allow us to precede with this trip we can re locate to Tomakin or Batemans Bay and run day trips.
Distance: We should not need to paddle more than 35 KM on the Saturday with plenty of options to land for a break.
Finish Time: Before 16:00 each day. Hope to land before 13:00 on Sunday to drive home in plenty of time.
Gear: Bring Camping Gear, Helmet and all your normal safety gear. Be prepared for surf.
I will only be taking 4 members but I have opened the registration to 10. Please be aware that by registering you are only registering your interest and are not guaranteed a position on the trip. I will finalise closer to the date. Feel free to email me (josh.andrews(at)defence.gov.au) if you have any questions.
Jervis Bay with Les 22-28 May 2017

- Camping at Honeymoon Bay Friday and Saturday night.
- Jervis bay offers some of the best paddling in NSW. If the weather is suitable we'll paddle around Beecroft peninsula and the stunning point perpendicular headland. May is often very settled so we hope to get up close to the cliff line, it's also the start of the whale migration. Be prepared to paddle 25 km. We'll paddle both days with full details sent out a few days before the trip.
- Bring kayaks to at least grade 2. Self sufficient car camping including food, water and gas cooker.
- group size - 6. Grade 2 or 3.

Club paddling Weekend - 20-21st May, Jervis Bay
When: 20-21 May 2017
Where: Jervis Bay
Grades 2 and 3
Based in Honeymoon Bay - the pearl of Jervis Bay - the paddlers will explore the magnificent features of the area over two days of paddling. Seals and dolphins often make appearances here; whales may well add to the excitement this time of the year!
Should if fit the group and conditions, we may choose to mix in some engaging training exercises to mix things up; or, we may simply choose to cruise and enjoy the sea. The emphasis will be on paddling and working together, perhaps brushing up on some skills but definitely gaining some 'sea' time. It's not about racing to the end.
Paddling is on the menu for both Saturday and Sunday. If you can only make one of the days it will probably be OK but please email organiser prior to booking.
Grade 2-3 welcome. Note: all need to present kayak to Grade 2 minimum (check club website); note that paddling along long exposed stretches of cliffy coastline for may be expected. If this sounds intimidating, contact organiser to discuss. If you're Grade 1, but think you're up to it, contact the organiser (before booking).
Come along to make this a classic Club weekend. Car based camping and socialising on both Friday and Saturday nights - should be fun. Bring cooking gear, food, nibbles and drink to share; good humour - and willingness to risk getting wet.
Note: camping in Honeymoon Bay cannot be booked beforehand; it is on first-come basis on the day.
Gear: all the paddling gear you have, including a helmet, first aid, rescue aids, etc. Camping gear to be self-sufficient.

Yarra Bay to Little Bay / Long Bay - Sun 2 April
Islands of the Hawkesbury River - NSWSKC Island Challenge
When: 1 / 2 April 2017
Grades 2 and 3. Spaces limited.
This is a great opportunity for those that have not had a chance to participate on any of the Island Challenge trips – come along and tick off a whole bunch in one foul swoop.
We will be launching from Parsley Bay (Brooklyn) on both days and staying Saturday night at a club member’s house. Some will be able to sleep inside, others will be able to pitch tents in the yard.
We plan to head upstream on the Saturday and pick off quite a number of islands including Spectacle, Snake, Peat, Milsons, Bar Islands, maybe also Friendly island if the tide is working well.
On Sunday we will circumnavigate Dangar island before heading out into Broken Bay to circle Lion Island.
Kayaks and kit to Grade 3, please. You’ll need to be self-sufficient in terms of food, clothing, safety kit, etc. Overnight camping gear and Saturday night dinner can be left in the car
Your trip leader will be Caoimhin Ardren. If we have high demand, there is another leader offering to assist – so if the trip is showing as Full – send me an email to put you on the wait list [cardren at gmail.com]
