Once in a Blue Moon - Evening / Night paddle

Tuesday 30th of January (moved from January 31 due to wind)

La Perouse, Botany Bay.

Meet at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. launch.  The aim will be to get to watch the blue moon rise around 7:45 p.m.  Sunset is at 8 p.m.

For who:   paddlers keen to paddle out at sea.   Minimum grade 1.

Distance:  approximately 10 k.m.

When a second full moon occurs in a month, the second one is a Blue Moon.    This will be a chance to experience night navigation and to feel the movement of the sea while witnessing the rise of a 98% full moon over the Tasman Sea.

You will need equipment to at least grade 2 standards plus lights so that other boats can see you and so the group can identify where you are.  Some suggested precautions for lights from the RMS are here:  http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/safety-rules/other-boating/canoes-and-kayaks.html .  (I recommend having a head lamp for packing gear away and being seen,  a light on your head or the stern of your kayak, preferably higher than the deck,  a cyalume stick for the front hidden from view under the bow,  and a light attached to your PFD in case you are separated from your kayak.)

High tide approximate 8 p.m.    Contact Megan  (  megan.r.pryke @ gmail. com ) for more details.
