Come and Try Sea Kayaking Day

Bundeena,  Sunday 18th of November 2018, 8 am to Noon

Do you have a friend keen to try sea kayaking, and maybe join the club?

Like some support to take them out and try our wonderful sport?

This trip will give new paddlers an opportunity to paddle with skilled and experienced sea kayakers and enjoy a club social day out. You and your friend will be taken out together in a group with other paired up with a current member. So along with other members in the group and a qualified trip leader, you will be part of the support team.

When you register, you are registering for two people – you as the member and your friend as a novice.

Your friend will be signed up as a temporary member. Details of how to do this will be advised after registration and closer to the day. Note there will be a small cost for this to cover administration and tick insurance boxes.  A National Parks entry fee applies if you do not have a Parks Pass.

What you need: Kit for both you and your friend. So, an extra sea kayak, paddle, lifejacket (type 50s compliant) and spray deck. Make sure you bring your usual safety gear (e.g. towline) and if you have any spare, safety gear for your friend.

Start time is 8 am and expect to finish by 12:30.  If you have the time, there will most probably be a social lunch afterwards.  Bring water and a few snacks for the paddle.

Training to Grade 2 - Batemans Bay

Grade Two training and refresher - Batemans Bay Area 

Date: 6 to 7 October 2018

This weekend activity in the Batemans Bay area is for members who wish to gain Grade Two sign off and/or refresh skills. All competencies will be covered, as well as one of the 15 km trips required for this level.  A detailed program will be provided upon registration.

Sea Skills Assessment December 15 2018

Saturday 15th of December 2018 

Where:  Sydney area.  Location to be advised based on expected surf conditions.

Start time: 8 am. Expect to finish around 5 pm.

This full-day session is for those Club members wishing to be assessed for the Paddle Australia Sea Skills Award (i.e. the Club’s Grade 3 standard).  It relates to the practical aspects of the award and consists of both on-land and on-water activities.

Sea Cliff Bridge, Illawarra, Sun 16th of September

Sun 16th of September, 2018.  Aimed at grade 2, bring equipment to grade 2 standard or more.

The aim will be to paddle from Austinmer to the Sea Cliff Bridge return, that is plan A.  

Aim to be there 9 am ready for 9:30 start. We'll aim to be back by around noon but you should bring on water snacks. Expect to paddle about 15 km in open sea conditions.

Rolling Tuneup - Gosford Pool

Wednesday August 29, 6-8pm

If your roll needs some work or practice, this evening session is for you.  If you are completely new to rolling we may not be able to dedicate enough individual time, so contact Campbell or Adrian, your instructors, to discuss where you are up to (camtil99[at]  Gosford pool is heated but open air.  You will need to dress warmly.  Your kayak should be sand and gravel free.  Attendees will need to share the cost of the pool rental, likely $20-30 each depending on numbers.

Sea Paddle & Skills Practice - Central Coast - Sunday Sept 9 2018

When: Sunday  9th of September, 2018,  

Where: Newcastle - Central Coast Area, location to be advised to registered participants
Grade 1-4: Ideal of paddlers wanting to expand on their sea paddling skills and experience and able to paddle at least 20 km in open seas.

Time: Meet at 9 am.  Be ready to launch by 9:30 am  Off the water around 2:30 pm

This session is for those wanting to get more exposure and practice to skills in an open sea environment.  There will be a paddle with skills practice during the day.  Skills practice will include scoop rescues and some more unusual routines as well as any skills that members would like to have for grade 2 sign-off.  This trip will be ideal for members wishing to take on more of a leadership role.

There will be some immersion to practice assisted rescue skills.  The exact location will be dependent on the available conditions nearer the time.

Equipment to grade 2 minimum, preferably 3, snacks lunch and water and helmet if you have one.  Be prepared for immersion and take warm gear and windproof clothing, e.g. cag for out of water activities such as lunch and briefings.

Tunks Park, Northbridge to East Killara Sunday 5th of August 2018

We will be paddling to the upper reaches of Middle Harbour Creek. Up to 27 km suitable for all paddlers with breaks along the way for snacks and lunch.

This is a paddle that explores many different forests and creeks along Middle Harbour. We should finish between 3 and 4 PM. The trip is weather dependent though in the enclosed Middle Harbour Creek we don't expect much wind.


Meet at Tunks Park Northbridge at 8.30 AM for a 9 AM start. Bring your lunch with you.
